I’ve often been told when you know better you do better. That is too often not true for so many reasons. I have spent many years learning what is good for my body and most of the time I do make good choices, but other times I just don’t feel like it. This past year I had large spans of time when I just didn’t feel like it.
When life gets in the way, hubby making a big career move, my son having difficulties selecting where to finish his education, and then moving away for the first time, and my own career being pulled in a direction that wasn’t right for me. With all the travel, stress and being pulled in so many directions all I wanted to do was eat comfort food and sit in front of the TV or computer.
As I’ve mentioned before I have depression, I could feel myself being pulled back into a depressive cycle and knew that so many of my choices were making it worse, but I felt powerless to do anything about it. I had periods of time when I would eat better and manage my stress better and I’d start to feel better, unfortunately any minor upset would pull me back down.
It took me months of moving the negative influences out of my life. When I’m in a funk, I attract people who seem to keep me there. Then I started reaching out to my support system, connecting with people who I know have my back. When all of this wasn’t enough I decided it was time to pull out the big guns, hire a fellow Health Coach.
As soon as I made the decision I could feel a shift in my own energy. It wasn’t hard to decide who I wanted to work with. I know many health coaches and I know many of them are amazing, but only one name came to mind as the right fit for me. I was thrilled to find that Pam had an opening for a 6 month program and that her rates were reasonable.
We have only been working together a few weeks, but I feel so much more in control. I know in my head most of what she is suggesting to me, but having someone else point these things out for me helps me know them in my heart. I can feel my energy increasing, my head clearing and my heart opening again. There is so much power in having time set aside just for me, to have a guide and an accountability partner that is focused just on my goals. To have a whole hour where I can take without giving, a confidant to discuss anything and everything without judgment.
I highly recommend getting a coach if you feel stuck. It can be a Health Coach, a Life Coach, a Fitness Coach, Business Coach or a Peer Coach. We all need a little help sometimes.
